With the Old Creamery gone, ACT I began the 1997 - 1998 Season as an orphan community theatre, and our orphan season began appropriately with a production of Oliver! And, like Oliver Twist, ACT I would eventually go from the street to a Palace. The former Palace movie theatre, by then reduced to a local gym, was selected as our ultimate new home and targeted for purchase, and by the end of the run of Oliver! over $100,000 had been raised for that project. During the 1997 - 1998 season we also began producing an annual variety show, a standing production that would continue over four seasons. The season ended with a pair of classic Broadway favorites; the all male Sleuth performed at the Ray House Museum, followed by the all female Steel Magnolias. Debuts during the 1997 - 1998 Season included Jay Appleby, Lori Ferguson, Dave Raines, the Sheahan family, Charlie Vogl, and Mike Williams.
