Minutes of November Board Meeting
Sunday, November 11, 2001
Board Members Present: Joan Cooling, Marcy Horst, Steve Arnold, Linda Radcliffe. Brian Larkin arrived at 7:15.
President Joan Cooling Presiding
Call to Order: 6:45 PM
Motion: (Marcy / Linda) To approve the minutes as presented. Motion carried.
Treasurer’s Report: Linda presented the board with printed reports. The balance in the checking account is $7,948.99. We need to pay the $2.00 per seat to the Palace for last season.
Discussion: Treasurer’s Report A variety of items were mentioned in the report. The Skeet Powers attendance so far was about 48 for the first performance and 70 for the second. We discussed purchasing some children’s costumes for The King and I from the Strawberry Point Community Theatre; it was felt these could be used or rented by us in the future.
Motion: (Marcy / Steve) To approve the Treasurer’s Report as corrected. Motion carried.
Motion: (Linda / Steve) To purchase eleven costumes from the Strawberry Point Community Theatre. Motion carried.
Discussions: Budget; Costume Policy It was decided to table these discussions until the next meeting.
Discussion: Rehearsal Hall toilets Neither of the bathrooms in the Studio that lie outside the costume shop are usable. The feeling is that these should be activated so that the costume shop can be kept closed during rehearsals. It was decided to contact Stufflebeams, and see whether they might donate all or a portion of the work for a sponsorship.
Motion: (Marcy / Linda) To repair the two toilets adjacent to the rehearsal hall and to propose to Stufflebeams that the work be done for a sponsorship. Motion carried. (NOTE: The work was carried out four days after the meeting; Stufflebeams agreed to repair one toilet for a $200 sponsorship and the other one was at our cost; it was less than $200)
Discussion: Board Vacancy The board met in executive session to discuss a replacement for Larry’s unexpired term following his resignation. In accordance with the bylaws, President Joan Cooling with appoint a successor to fill the remainder of the term. (Note: In the days following the meeting, Joan appointed Kari Douma to the position.)
Discussion: Poetry Reading Following e-mail discussions, the price for the poetry reading, entitled From Soup to Nuts, will be $12.00 for adults and $7.00 for students, with $2.00 off those prices for season ticket holders. The main course will be lasagna. Reservations will be made through out box office line.
Discussion: Play Selection The play selection committee will meet Saturday at 1:00. The committee will include Joan as chair, Marcy, Ron, Steve, and others. The possibility of having the season planned quickly and soon was discussed so that season tickets for 2002-2003 could begin over Christmas. Several show titles were discussed, including Little Shop of Horrors, Kiss Me, Kate, The Physicists, Lost in Yonkers, and The Good Doctor.
Discussion: December Meeting It decided to hold the quarterly membership meeting in January rather than December. The December meeting will be at Steve’s house on December 9, and the board will be guests for Tea and Shakespeare at that time. The meeting will begin at 6:30 with the tea, followed by the readings and then by the meeting.
Motion: (Brian/Linda) To adjourn the meeting. Motion carried.
The Meeting was adjourned at 8:20 PM.
