106 1/2 East Fourth Street, Vinton

When not at the Palace Theatre, ACT I is at home in its studio space above Clingman Pharmacy in Vinton.
The ACT I Studio has come to us courtesy of Jon and Julie Clingman, who have provided us with ample space above their pharmacy on Fourth Street a block and a half from the theatre. The studio includes a large rehearsal hall, costume shop, and office space.

Cast members of A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum are seen rehearsing in the Studio rehearsal hall. The room is large enough to provide actors with a space equal in width to the Palace Theatre stage.

The hall once housed the Knights of Columbus, but sat empty for a dozen years before Jon and Julie Clingman offered the space for ACT I's use.
In the rehearsal hall can be seen an archival display of programs and posters from all of ACT I's past productions, as well as newsletters, newspaper clippings, and other memorabilia from out 23 years of community theatre.

Directly adjacent to the rehearsal hall is a sitting area which functions as a green room to the main space. Cast members can quietly relax there to work on lines or other activities while waiting to go on. A feature of the space is the row of old theatre seats which were once part of the Palace Theatre, ACT I's resident performance facility.

Above, members of the cast of It Runs in the Family rehearse a scene in the Studio Rehearsal Hall.

Cast members from Romeo and Juliet take a break from a dance rehearsal. The hall's wood floor makes it an ideal space for choreography.
The costume shop, a few steps from the rehearsal hall, was once a large apartment. Two smaller rooms to the front of the building had once been part of a law office. In addition to expanded storage for our costume collection, the space provides work space for costumers who can now easily work with actors as they rehearse productions.

The two additional rooms at the front of the building will provide us with storage for hats, wigs, and accessories as well as office and library space.
The office provides work space for directors and also space where actors can go to run lines without disturbing rehearsals in the main hall. The office also houses ACT I's library of scripts and theatre books. An additional lounge area where actors can work sits outside the office at the front of the long hallway that leads to the rehearsal hall and costume shop.
The Clingman's gift of this space is proving to be a very valuable asset to ACT I! Thanks, Jon and Julie!
