“The difference between a flower girl and a duchess is not how she acts, but how she’s treated.”

This famous line from “My Fair Lady” sums up the story of one of the greatest and best loved musicals ever written.: Adapted in 1959 by Lerner and Lowe from George Bernard Shaw’s classic “Pygmalion,” it became an even greater classic on the musical stages of London and New York!: Add to Shaw’s great play the wonderful, unforgettable music and lyrics of Lerner and Lowe, and you have a classic in the very truest sense!: Shaw, a great social critic, presented his theory that class distinctions are formed because of the way people speak, and that if everyone spoke a standardized English, our society could become more egalitarian.: This is the story of a cockney flower girl, Eliza Doolittle, who meets the irrepressible linguistics Professor Henry Higgins and accepts his challenge to pass her off as a duchess in six months, all by training her to speak properly.: The show premiered in London and later on Broadway with Rex Harrison, Julie Andrews, and Stanley Holloway, and later became a feature film starring Audrey Hepburn.
